Why Religion is What the UK Missed?

While observing the posts about religious communities in the UK and their efforts to prevent rioting and looting, I was astonished by the acts of Sikhs while protecting their temple from incoming rioting groups. Hundreds of people, united by their religion, were standing against violent thugs with masks destroying what the UK has achieved with hard work and law obedience. However, it is my conviction that religion is not all about believing in God - it is an attempt to unite people, to bring them closer together and to provide them with the spiritual facilities for personal identification.
However, while I saw Sikhs and Muslims being united against the terror in the country, I saw no Christian group making the same effort. It seems that the British people are more interested in anything - including things such as horse equine claims compensation, rather than religious unity. The Christians in the country have almost forgotten their identity and while many of them are identifying themselves as Christians, what is the percentage of their life that they are ready to dedicate to each other in order to unite themselves in protecting basic human values? I believe such percentage is so low that measuring it would be a task with no completion.
I am not claiming that people should inevitably believe in God as a spiritual being guiding their lives - however, I do believe they can learn more about human dignity, relationships and common values by following simple religious principles. This is what UK misses the most - if there had been more religious awareness among Christians in this country, life could have been different and people could have been happier, with more values to rely on and with others to support them.
